40 years ago one man’s vision made a lasting impact on the city of Lakeland. Adonis Dedes didn’t just believe in the gift of community; he did everything he could to foster growth, strengthen bonds, and build a solid foundation for individuals and organizations in the community. Now his children have taken up his mantle, using the success of his skating rink to make a difference in the lives of the community.
A History of Service
When Adonis Dedes purchased Skate World in 1977, he did it because he had a heart for people. Over the years he became a community staple, lending his time, money, and good humor to supporting the kids who came through Skate World’s doors. It’s not uncommon for out-of-state visitors to pop in during a matinee session to share the impact that Adonis had on their lives. Chanel continues his legacy through Skate World, donating the time of our supportive staff, free gifts like birthday parties, and extra funds to help enrich our community.
How Skate World Gives Back
As an organization that focuses on the families and youth of Lakeland, we see the importance of giving resources to those in need every day. We’re passionate about finding needs within the community and lending our talents to bettering lives in Lakeland. That’s why we host weekly Skate and Donate events, donate extra tickets from events like Snow Skate to underprivelaged kids, and volunteer at community outreach programs like KidsPack . Over the last eight years, we’ve been blessed to donate over $60,000 to Lakeland organizations. With our Thursday Skate and Donate session booked almost every week since it’s inception, we know we’ll be able to give more of our time, money, and support to local organizations in the years to come!
If you’d like to book a Thursday fundraiser, request a gift for a Lakeland charity auction, or get involved in giving back to the community, please call Chanel at Skate World.
