People are constantly stopping by our roller skating center in Lakeland, FL after years away. “It looks like a whole new skating rink,” is the familiar refrain. And with good reason. When Adonis Dedes passed away, his daughter Chanel only intended keep Skate World open for the summer. But she fell in love with the laughter, the memories, and the community. “I really understood why daddy did what he did for 30 years. You have the opportunity to minister to so many young people; give them a place to go that’s safe, fun, [and] clean.” Chanel decided to pour her life into the rink, paying tribute to her father, her family, and all her Skate World friends by improving the skating center bit by bit.
When Chanel rolled out the renovations, her first act was to replace the rental roller skates. Then she systematically spruced, restored, and replaced the equipment of the rink, adding color to the carpet and repainting dingy walls. But the biggest improvement was to the heart of Skate World: the roller skating floor. As a roller skating center so close to Tampa, FL, the humidity was starting to swell our hardwood floors, creating a dangerous skating surface. Adonis replaced the floors with concrete and epoxy, but Chanel wanted something special. She implemented the FAST Floor System that so many of our customers rave about. Microfibers in the floor make an even surface, and the FAST crew laser leveled the floor, giving your wheels the smoothest ride ever.
Skate World has come a long way since 1977. Chanel and her employees have a passion for giving the Lakeland community a familiar, enjoyable place to kick back and skate, whether it’s for a birthday party, a fundraiser, a community event, or just a fun weekend hangout. Stop by for a true Skate World welcome.
