Earn Your Skating Badge
What does it take to earn a roller-skating badge? Full knowledge of the safety procedures, equipment details, or etiquette of roller-skating or a physical mastery of skating. Badges exist for both inline and quad skating. Kids have five ways to earn a skating merit badge:
- Give safety and etiquette rules for skating, discuss the parts and functions of roller-skates, and describe the steps of good skate care.
- Demonstrate smooth skating, gliding, and stopping techniques as specified by an instructor.
- Preform a cross-cut, skate backwards, and skate in a slalom pattern as dictated by an instructor.
- Demonstrate a widespread eagle, mohawk, shuttle skate, and consecutive skate spins.
- Show mastery of speed skating, limbo, the stepover, and basketball or hockey on skates.
