Think about when you’ve gone to buy a new pair of shoes. What are some key components you look for? For most, comfortability, sizing and stability are three key aspects. Well, the same goes for roller skates! We like to say “fit properly to skate properly.” The scoop to being a skating pro is having the right shoes. So how do you know which ones to pick?
Think about the purpose.
There are two types of skates for children; quad skates and inline skates. Quad skates are what you’re most likely used to seeing; a four wheel skate typically used in indoor settings like Skate World. Inline skates (roller blades) are for the more experienced skater, as it’s harder to balance and they’re used in outdoor settings. Quad skates are more conventional and great for beginners.
Get the sizing right.
Skates are kind of like tennis shoes. As your kid grows, they’ll grow out of their skates! We recommend buying skates a size bigger, but no more than that. It works out anyway, because we also recommend wearing thick socks to prevent any blisters. Be sure to tie laces correctly as well, as it greatly effects how the skates fit.
Suit their style.
Pick out a design or color that you think your child will love most! Each skate is unique, just like your child, and they’ll want the skates to be as personable as possible. Check out this inspiration for 80’s themed skates! Use rhinestones, glue, appliques, etc. to bedazzle your skates.
